It has been well-documented by now that LIV Golf stopped reporting its viewership numbers months ago. After the numbers for the first two events of its sophomore season were so bad, the Saudi Arabia-funded golf circuit just went quiet on the matter.
Well, we may finally have a look at what those numbers really are.
According to a viewership breakdown on the outlet Sports Media Watch, LIV Golf Bedminster drew 181,000 viewers on the CW on Saturday and 187,000 viewers on Sunday.
At a quick glance, those numbers probably mean nothing, but SMW posted other viewer numbers for comparison.
SMW reported that an exhibition basketball game between the United States and Spain averaged 657,000 viewers on Fox on Sunday. The WNBA on ION had fewer viewers but still faired better than LIV, averaging 271,000 viewers on Friday for the Chicago Sky vs. New York Liberty game. Even the Little League Softball World Series pulled in more viewers, averaging 861,000 on Sunday afternoon.
LIV Golf enthusiasts may balk at those numbers since they don't include streaming the event on YouTube, but it should be remembered that the PGA Tour doesn't release streaming numbers either.
Speaking of which, SMW reported the last round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship averaged 3.21 million viewers. That average topped viewership of the NASCAR Cup Series race on NBC (2.84 million) and "Sunday Night Baseball" across three ESPN platforms (1.69 million).
#RATINGS for LIV Bedminster : “LIV Golf on The CW drew a 0.13 and 187,000 Sunday afternoon and a 0.12 and 181,000 on Saturday”, per Sports Media Watch. LIV Golf and the CW agreed to a two-year TV partnership at the beginning of 2023. The Sports Business Journal reported in January the deal includes a "one-year option based on viewership."
