Living up to Tiger Woods’ name while trying to build your own career in golf comes with its own set of challenges. That’s exactly what Charlie Woods is dealing with at the moment.

In some ways, having Tiger as a mentor is a massive advantage. Few players have had that kind of support and insight available to them so early on.

But the weight of those comparisons, especially given his dad’s place in the sport, isn’t something many could shrug off easily.

Charlie has already drawn positive attention for his game, with Bernhard Langer among those recently speaking highly of his talent.

Still, there’s always this underlying sense that no matter what he achieves, it’ll always be measured against what Tiger did before him.

Tiger also spoke about how different their paths into golf have been. While Tiger was hitting balls before he could even walk properly, Charlie’s introduction came much later and wasn’t pushed by his father at all. He added: Despite pressure on Charlie Woods – everything seems right so far.

Hank Haney offers his honest assessment of Charlie Woods’ swing

Between 2004 and 2010, Hank Haney worked closely with Tiger Woods, giving him a deep understanding of Tiger’s swing.

But what about Charlie’s technique? On Wednesday, Haney shared his thoughts on the 16-year-old’s swing via social media. He kept it simple: “That’s a great golf swing.”

Woods Jr. has already drawn attention for his game, even earning high praise from Bernhard Langer recently.

No matter what he does in the sport, there will always be comparisons to his father. That can’t be easy for anyone to handle.

What Charlie Woods’ recent victory means for his future in golf

In May, Charlie Woods picked up his first American Junior Golf Association win at the Team TaylorMade Invitational, finishing 15-under par at Streamsong Resort’s Black Course.

It was an impressive performance, and it should help quiet any talk that he’s only in these events because of his surname.

This isn’t about nepotism. Charlie can play. Whether he ever matches what Tiger did is another question entirely, but that shouldn’t be the standard he’s held to.
