Tiger Woods Offers Update On 2024 Playing Schedule

PGA Tour superstar Tiger Woods came into the 2024 season with a plan in place about how much he would play. The 15-time major winner was aiming to play in at least one tournament per month, but that quest was derailed pretty early on.

In his first tournament of the season, the Genesis Invitational from February 15-18th at the Riveria Country Club, Tiger Woods was forced to withdraw during the second round of play. He was battling the flu and was struggling to get around the course.

Unfortunately, he did not play in March, as the next time he teed off in a tournament was for The Masters at Augusta National Golf Club on April 11th-14th. He made the cut, setting the record for most consecutive in PGA Tour history, but his performance fell off in the final two rounds.

Tiger Woods ended up shooting a 16-over 304, which placed him in last among the golfers who made the 36-hole cut. During his appearance on the “Today” show on Wednesday, he provided some insight into just how challenging it was to get through that tournament.

“He completed the Masters last month but requires a “cold plunge every day, religiously” to get his body going and was “extremely sore” when he left Augusta National. Woods shot a 16-over 304 at the Masters to finish last among the 60 golfers who made the 36-hole cut,” as shared by ESPN.

During the “Today” show appearance, Tiger Woods also gave an update on how often he will be playing the remainder of the season. He is still aiming for once a month the rest of the way, with a focus on the remaining majors.

“I have basically the next three months — three majors — and hopefully that works out,” said Woods. The next major will be the PGA Championship at Valhalla in two weeks. After that, the U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 begins on June 13th and The Open Championship in Scotland at Royal Troon gets underway on July 18th.

Playing in all four majors would be a feat in itself for Tiger Woods regardless of how he performs. The last time he played all of them was in 2019, and he is hoping to add a 16th major title to his trophy case.

“My goal is to ruin the logo. I want to keep ruining the logo,” Woods said, as his new logo has 15 stripes, one for every major he has won in his career to this point.
