Golf legend Tiger Woods has officially been charged with driving under the influence and faces potential prison time.
12 days ago, Tiger Woods was involved in a rollover car crash in Jupiter Island, Florida. Though Woods and the driver of the other vehicle avoided serious injuries, the 50-year-old was later arrested for DUI, property damage and refusal to submit.
After the accident, police bodycam footage showed Woods even telling the responding officers that he had just spoken with President Donald Trump over the phone. Woods is in a relationship with Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., the president’s oldest of five children.
According to TMZ, Woods was officially issued misdemeanor charges for DUI and refusal to submit on Tuesday. The 15-time major winner faces the possibility of jail time.
Woods announced last week that he was taking time away from golf to focus on his well-being, meaning he’ll miss his second straight Masters. He also missed the 2025 Masters after suffering a torn Achilles tendon at his home during a training session weeks earlier.
Woods’ second arrest was especially disturbing for his fanbase simply because it was not his first offense. He was previously arrested in Jupiter Island in May 2017 for driving under the influence.
A toxicology report found marijuana and prescription drugs in Woods’ system, but no alcohol. He was issued a small fine and ordered to perform community service.
Woods was also involved in a serious car accident in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, on Feb. 23, 2021. He was treated for leg injuries and never charged with a crime, though authorities determined that he was driving nearly double the speed limit.
