Tiger Woods did enough in the first two days to make the cut at the 2022 Masters and stay relatively close to the top of the leaderboard, but a rough third round ended any hopes of contention for a sixth green jacket.
Woods, 46, entered the third day of the tournament in a tie for 19th place after shooting one under par in the first round and two over in the second. A six over par performance Saturday now has him seven over and outside the top 40 entering the final day.
The 72-hole tournament is Woods' first since he was involved in a car accident in February 2021 that caused injuries so severe that he nearly lost a leg. He last played at the 2020 Masters where he finished in a tie for 38th.
On Saturday, Woods hit three birdies, five bogeys, and two double bogeys to end the day with a score of 78. He looked to be making a surge during the back nine when he hit back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th holes.

That momentum was nullified when he hit bogeys on holes 16 and 17 before capping his day with a double bogey on the 18th.
Scottie Scheffler entered Saturday with a five-stroke lead after a stellar second round and he kept the pressure on with four birdies and a bogey on the first eight holes of the third round. Scheffler is at the top of the Official World Golf Ranking with three PGA Tour wins since February. He has never won a major, though, and his best ever Masters finish is 18th place.
