Tommy Fleetwood admits what has been poor about his season despite major wins

Tommy Fleetwood is back on the DP World Tour this week, taking his game to Delhi for the India Championship. He heads into the tournament following a T21 finish at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, held earlier in June.

Robert MacIntyre came out on top at the Alfred Dunhill Links, with both players still riding high after playing a part in Europe’s Ryder Cup win just before that.

Fleetwood put up four points from his five matches at Bethpage Black in New York, more than anyone else across both teams.

He’s now aiming for an eighth win on tour, with play getting underway on Thursday at Delhi Golf Club.

Tommy Fleetwood looks ahead to future goals after strong 2025 season

When asked if his goal for next season is now a top five finish in one of golf’s big four tournaments after claiming an elusive DP World Tour win this season he replied:

Fleetwood finished T33 at The Masters (E), T31 at the US Open (+3), T30 at The Open (+1) and missed the cut at the PGA Championship (+4). He also recorded just two top-10 finishes from eight major championship starts across both tours since 2024.

So while he may have added some impressive highlights elsewhere this year – there is no doubt where Fleetwood will want to focus his efforts heading into next year – with the hard work set to start right away.

Tommy Fleetwood admits to unusual feeling before DP World India Championship

It’s been a memorable year for Fleetwood, who finally got his first PGA Tour win at East Lake, ending a run of near misses that had lasted for quite a while.

Fleetwood broke through with the Tour Championship victory in what was his 164th start on the PGA Tour.

The major championships, though, remained out of reach again this season, pushing that particular goal further into 2026.

This week though, his attention is back on the DP World Tour. He also spoke about returning to Delhi and the need to secure his place in Abu Dhabi later this year.

He said: “Yeah, I think that’s the thing in golf. There’s always something to play for. There’s always something else that comes up.”

“There’s always something else that you will end up striving for no matter how high or low you sit in any kind of rankings.”

“For me, I don’t want to use the term ‘take it for granted’ but I’ve always qualified for the last events. But yeah, it’s something that I have not had to think about for a few years.”

“Strange season. Again, you talk about what a great season I’ve had and achieved some great things. But similar to the majors, really.”

“I look at the year I’ve had to Race to Dubai and where I sit and it’s kind of disappointing to be that far down and not really competing at the top end of Race to Dubai.”

Despite all this success around him, Fleetwood is keeping things simple ahead of his next tournament start.
