After an already loaded week for TGL, the upstart simulator league found a way to stay even more on the radar. On Friday, it was announced that six-time winner and Netflix "Full Swing" star Tony Finau had signed a one-match contract with the league. Finau, 35, will suit up as a last-minute replacement for the LA Golf Club this Monday night.
The biggest discussion over the past several weeks has been how TGL can continue to stay relevant and keep viewers as the season progresses. Yesterday marked the first time the league faced some adversity, and they were able to spin it into a positive narrative. Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose became unavailable at the last minute for the first match of Monday night's doubleheader against New York Golf Club.
In what could have sent TGL executives spiraling, they quickly turned it into positive news by announcing the league's first-ever "free-agent" signing. Tony Finau will make a one-match appearance to fill the void left between Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala.

Let’s be honest: We don't know how sustainable the TGL is going to be. It is a long shot, but one thing is apparent: We are still talking about it and watching it well into its inaugural season. Even when it’s just guys hitting into a big screen and a fake green for two hours a match, something continues to draw the crowd at home.
I applaud this move by TGL. This is the first time they had an issue with player schedules, and they were left short-handed going into a match. Ultimately, they found a way to spin it in a positive light, just like they have adjusted the rules and product in weeks past. Now, just like that, we have a TGL version of "free agency."
