Jordan Spieth’s withdrawal has dealt another injury blow to the 2025 Travelers Championship. It marks the first time in his long PGA Tour career that he has withdrawn due to health issues, ending a streak of 297 consecutive starts without a single withdrawal.

Spieth Forced Out After Discomfort In Opening Round

Jordan Spieth showed signs of discomfort early in his opening round at the Travelers Championship, visibly struggling as he made his way around TPC River Highlands. The three-time major champion received treatment from a physiotherapist after the front nine, but the issue appeared to worsen as he continued playing.

The injury seemed to affect his neck or back and eventually became too much to manage. Spieth battled through 12 holes before deciding to withdraw from the event. The withdrawal comes less than a year after Spieth underwent wrist surgery, adding another setback in his push to return to top form. He tied for 23rd at Oakmont Country Club last week, shooting eight-over par—a solid performance considering the rough course conditions.

“Jordan Spieth has withdrawn from the Travelers Championship due to injury. This is Spieth’s first career WD in 297 PGA TOUR starts,” the PGA Tour said in a post on X. Officials have not released any details about the 31-year-old’s injury, but he is expected to shift his focus immediately to recovery.

Spieth Joins Growing List of Withdrawals

The PGA Tour designates the Travelers Championship as a Signature Event with no cut, guaranteeing every invited player a chance to play all four rounds unless they withdraw. It has a $20 million purse, with $3.6 million going to the winner. Forty-five of the world’s top 50 players headline this year’s stacked field. Big names like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and defending champion Keegan Bradley are all in contention at the tournament.

Spieth isn’t the only player to have withdrawn from the tournament due to injury. Corey Conners was the first to pull out after picking up a wrist injury during the U.S. Open. The injury happened on the third day of play, when he hit a shot out of the thick rough. Despite the pain, the 33-year-old Canadian pushed through and completed the full 18 holes. However, he didn’t return for the final round. Jhonattan Vegas replaced him.

Brian Campbell also withdrew from the Travelers Championship due to a shoulder injury. Campbell had hoped to play and waited until the last minute before making a final decision. The 32-year-old American and former PGA Tour winner knew he wouldn’t be able to compete at his best and stepped aside. His withdrawal opens the door for Davis Riley, who will now get a tee time at TPC River Highlands in the last Signature Event of the PGA Tour season.
