Viktor Hovland set for PGA Tour return along with Tiger Woods at Genesis Invitational
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

After sitting out of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, World No.4 Viktor Hovland is set to return to the golf action. He though is not the only huge name making his return this week. Golf great Tiger Woods will be joining him as the two golfers prepare for the Genesis Invitational.

Hovland was one of the best performers in 2023. The Norwegian International picked with three wins throughout the season along with two back-to-back triumphs in the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship which saw him claim the FedEx Cup.

Apart from his personal accomplishment, he also played a major part in Team Europe’s success at the 2023 Ryder Cup. This made him one of the stars to watch out for in the 2024 season.

The start of the New Year though has not been an easy one for him. In his two starts in the six events so far, Hovland has finished tied for 22nd and tied for 54th, leading to several questions regarding his drop in form. He will now be aiming to start off fresh at the Genesis Open when he tees off with Sam Burns and WM Phoenix Open Nick Taylor on Thursday.

On the other hand, Woods will make his first PGA Tour start in over 10 months. The 82-time PGA Tour winner has achieved almost everything in golf apart from winning at the Riviera course. This is something he would like to change.

Viktor Hovland addresses LIV Golf links

In the past few months, the name of LIV Golf has taken the golf community by storm once again. A major factor for this had been the $600 million switch of Jon Rahm. The Spaniard’s move to the Saudi-funded tour instigated talks of Viktor Hovland possibly doing the same.

The Norwegian golfer though denied switching tours. He would take a jab at LIV Golf and claimed their product was not so great.

I don't think their product is that great. I'm not such a fan of, for example, playing without a cut. You need the competition with 150 players and a cut. If you don't play well enough, you're out. There is something about it that makes your game a little sharper. If I had gone to LIV, I don't think I would have become a better golfer. And then it is, in a way, end of discussion. With the LIV Golf now preparing for it’s third event of the season, the talks of Hovland moving away has stopped. Fans are now eager to see how he performs in the upcoming events as he tries to bounce back from a sluggish start.
