Watch: LIV Golf's Matthew Wolff sinks first hole-in-one in league history

Matthew Wolff joined the LIV Golf Series in late June. Taking part in the LIV Golf Invitational Boston on Friday, the 23-year-old made league history.

The invitational will run through Sunday.

At just 20 years old, Wolff picked up his first PGA Tour victory at the 2019 3M Open. The former NCAA All-American out of Oklahoma State University captured the NCAA Division I individual championship just before turning pro and only two months ahead of his 3M Open victory.

Wolff finished as the runner-up at the 2020 U.S. Open and tied for fourth at that year's PGA Championship, but never earned another win on the tour.

Scottie Scheffler leads favorites as playoffs begin at St. Jude Championship

MEMPHIS — Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 golfer in the world, enters the FedEx St. Jude Championship — the first leg of the season-ending PGA Tour playoffs — on a successful stretch. Scheffler will be coming off 11 consecutive top-10 finishes. With that momentum, which includes last month's Open title, Scheffler has handled the FedEx Cup playoffs preparation a bit differently than he would have for an event earlier in the season. For Scheffler, at this stage of the golf year, he's finding that less is better. "That extra practice is maybe only going to be draining for me a little bit, and that's something that I've learned to manage as my career has gone on," he said Wednesday from TPC Southwind, site of the St. Jude Championship. "I would say my prep week last week definitely looked a bit different than it would have looked before the Scottish Open and definitely looked a little bit different than it would have looked if you go back to the beginning of the year when I was coming off injury. "So making sure I'm rested, ready to play. My game is in a good spot, and I feel like some extra practice at this point in the year can almost be detrimental in terms of just physical and mental fatigue." The opening tournament of the playoffs features 69 of the top 70 golfers in the FedEx Cup standings, including Scheffler, defending champion Hideki Matsuyama of Japan and resurgent Justin Thomas. Reigning Masters champion Rory McIlroy decided to skip the first leg and is the only eligible golfer among the top 70 sitting out the tournament. With four wins this season, including two victories in majors, Scheffler is among the favorites. Expected to earn a fourth straight PGA Tour Player of the Year award, he is looking forward to playing on a TPC Southwind course that underwent renovation after last year's St. Judge Championship concluded. Each of the 18 greens was rebuilt and resurfaced. The tee boxes were also resurfaced, and Bermuda grass around the greens was replaced by tightly mowed Zeon Zoysia. "They did a good job, I think, with the runoff areas around the greens here," Scheffler said. "The new greens right now are really firm. I think this is a golf course that's typically been pretty popular on Tour, so I appreciated they didn't come in when they renovated it and just completely change the golf course. "I think they had a really good base for a solid golf course where ball-striking is important. You've got to hit it well around this place. I think they did a really good job. The golf course is healthy. They kept the DNA of what's made this course really good and then enhanced it with some of the pitching areas." Harris English, enjoying the best year of his career, returns to the site of his first PGA Tour victory. He won the event when it was part of the regular-season schedule in 2013. "After playing (practice rounds) the last couple days, the improvements obviously with the new greens, the greens are really firm," English said. "I feel like the rough is up from years past. Even (Wednesday), hitting some balls in the rough, it's hard to find them. You get this gnarly Bermuda rough, it's so hard to figure out if it's going to jump, if it's going to come out dead. McIlroy's absence has created some off-course controversy. He will easily qualify for the second stage of the playoffs next week at the BMW Championship at Caves Valley Golf Club near Baltimore, but PGA Tour officials are concerned he elected to bypass the first leg. Those who finish Sunday ranked in the top 50 not only move on to Baltimore but are also eligible for each of the eight PGA Tour signature events in 2025. --Phil Stukenborg, Field Level Media

Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani reaches yet another incredible milestone

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani entered Wednesday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals on the precipice of another milestone. Ohtani had recorded 999 hits in his career, an impressive number considering he continued to hit while rehabbing after a pair of elbow surgeries and the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. He notched his 1,000th career hit in the third inning, belting a two-run homer off Cardinals pitcher Matthew Liberatore. While that home run temporarily gave his team a 2-1 lead, the Dodgers' bullpen failed to hold on in the 5-3 loss. Ohtani has put together an impressive season as he slowly works himself back as a starting pitcher. He has posted a .276/.381/.606 batting line in 521 plate appearances, hitting 39 homers and 15 doubles while stealing 16 bases. Ohtani also has a 2.37 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP over 19 innings, striking out 25 batters with just five walks. His 1,000th hit is another milestone in a career that is on track to end in Cooperstown. The 2018 American League Rookie of the Year, Ohtani is a five-time All-Star and three-time MVP, joining Hall of Fame outfielder Frank Robinson as the only players to win the MVP award in both leagues. He is one home run shy of his fourth season with 40 or more homers and is the only player in major league history to hit 50+ homers and steal 50+ bases in the same season. Ohtani's exploits on the mound have been equally impressive. He has reached the double-digit mark in wins twice and has struck out more than 150 batters in a season three times. Ohtani finished fourth in the 2022 AL Cy Young race after posting a 15-9 record with a 2.33 ERA and a 1.012 WHIP over 166 innings, striking out 219 batters with 44 walks. It is sure to be one of the many milestones Ohtani reaches as his career continues.

Jalen Milroe Surges Past Former NFL Starter on First Seattle Seahawks Depth Chart

Despite being viewed as a potential first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, former Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe ended up sliding into the third round. The 22-year-old who was the starter for Alabama for two seasons was selected with the No. 92 pick by the Seattle Seahawks. Although every player's dream is to go in the first round, Milroe likely couldn't have gone to a better situation. There is virtually no pressure on him as the Seahawks signed former Minnesota Vikings quarterback, Sam Darnold, to a three-year, $100.5 million contract this offseason, and also have Drew Lock, who has started 28 career games on the roster as well. However, based on ESPN's initial depth chart, Milroe may be climbing the depth chart sooner than most expected. Seattle Seahawks Depth Chart As reported by ESPN, the Seahawks depth chart goes as follows: QB1: Sam Darnold QB2 Jalen Milroe QB3 Drew Lock If this truly ends up being the case, Milroe has taken major strides following his final season at Alabama. During his final year in Tuscaloosa, Milroe was criticized heavily for forcing passes into windows that weren't there after being late on reads. In his final season at Alabama, Milroe threw a career-high 11 interceptions to just 16 touchdowns, an increase of five more interceptions than he threw in 2023. Although training camp is still ongoing and the preseason games have yet to be played, clearly, Milroe is finding some success in the pacific northwest.

Green Bay Packers: Slo-Mo Video of Jordan Love’s Insane 55-Yard TD Bomb to Romeo Doubs Goes Viral

Much has been said about the Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver room in the offseason, but there is also still a lot to discover about the group. For one, rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden, for all the hype he’s been getting, has yet to show what he can do downfield in an official NFL game. He will get his chances soon, though, with the NFL preseason coming up for the Packers and the 2025 NFL regular season just around the corner. Meanwhile, other wide receivers like Romeo Doubs are a known factor for the Packers, as he enters his fourth season in the NFL. Still, he must be motivated to have a big season ahead, considering that he has no contract beyond the 2025 campaign. Selected in the fourth round (132nd overall) of the 2022 NFL draft by the Packers, the former Nevada football star is hard at work in the offseason, improving his chemistry with his teammates, most importantly with star quarterback Jordan Love. Jordan Love, Romeo Doubs connect for spectacular touchdown at Green Bay Packers training camp During a recent training camp session, Doubs beat defensive backs Javon Bullard and Evan Williams downfield and caught a pass from Love for a huge 55-yard touchdown. A slo-mo video of that play was posted by the Packers on social media, particularly on X, leaving Green Bay and football fans buzzing. Last season, Doubs finished fourth on the team with 601 receiving yards to go along with four touchdowns on 46 receptions and 72 targets. He only played in 13 games, as he missed four games due to a concussion he suffered in a Week 12 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.
