When will Tiger Woods break silence on PGA-LIV merger?

PGA Tour players past and present have had a lot to say about the league's proposed merger with LIV Golf, and very little of it has been positive. Everyone from retired golfer Tom Watson to current world No. 3 Rory McIlroy has expressed disappointment in PGA commissioner Jay Monahan for the lack of transparency with regard to the merger, which would put the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund under the same umbrella.

While McIlroy rapidly reaffirmed his longstanding hatred for LIV Golf, another major PGA figurehead and advocate wasn't immediately heard from: Tiger Woods.

Woods has kept an extremely low profile since his 2023 season was interrupted due to ankle surgery. Given his role in unifying PGA pros against the Saudi-backed rogue league — and that he turned down an exorbitant amount of money to join LIV — many thought he would at least have something to say publicly about the rival leagues potentially having to break bread.

It has been roughly two weeks since the proposed merger was announced, and there has still been no official word from Woods — not about the merger, not about Monahan, not about the report that he could be compensated for staying loyal to the PGA Tour through all the drama. There has been nothing but radio silence from the 15-time major winner.

Since he has been ruled out for the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool next month, there is no way of knowing when Woods will decide to address the media.

Of course, the 47-year-old icon isn't going to stay silent forever. He is still an active member of the PGA Tour and continues to develop golf-centric business ventures off of the links. Woods will, at some point, release a statement or answer the press's questions regarding the proposed melding of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

Pinpointing when that will be is a whole other story.
