Scottie Scheffler has been the top player on the PGA Tour for quite a while now, and it does not look as though that is changing any time soon.
Until last April, he had not yet won, and some strange questions were starting to pop up.
Did his seven wins in 2024 mean he was already past his best? Was he going to have a hard time reaching those heights again?
He has responded in style. Over the past three months alone, he has picked up five more victories, including two major championships.
This year has seen Scheffler pull even further away from world number two Rory McIlroy, now holding a massive 10-point lead over him.
On top of his play, the Dallas native brings a professional approach every time he steps onto the course.
His focus is there from the first hole to the last putt. That mindset is what has helped him rack up so many wins in recent years.
The question now is whether he can go on to match the legacies of Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods over the next decade or so. Time will tell.
Maintaining his current pace will not be easy, but with his work ethic and consistency, it would not be a surprise if he stays somewhere near.
Over the last four seasons, Scheffler has put together an impressive record: 18 PGA Tour wins, including four majors.
If he keeps up this pace over the next 11 years, that would put him at 68 PGA Tour wins and 15 major titles by the time he turns 40.
Naturally, keeping up that level through to 2036 is asking a lot. These numbers are more of a projection than anything else.
Still, Scheffler should be right in the thick of his prime over the next decade or so.
Most tour players hit their best form in their mid-30s, outside rare cases like Tiger Woods. So even if there is some slowdown, he could still be adding plenty to his CV in those years ahead.
Scheffler did not hit the ground running on the PGA Tour, taking a while to find his footing and seal that first win.
But once he broke through at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February 2022, everything changed.
Achievements | Scheffler’s totals |
Events played | 149 |
Major wins | 4 |
Wins | 18 |
Top-5s | 55 |
Top-10s | 75 |
Missed cuts | 19 |
The numbers speak for themselves, don’t they?
If he keeps this up, there is little doubt that Scheffler will be remembered as one of the greats by the time his career is done.
