The 2026 Masters is part of the past now, with Rory McIlroy winning back-to-back championships at Augusta National Golf Club. The Northern Irish star dominated the entire competition, leading the pack in all but one day of the four-day tournament.
McIlroy added another green jacket to his growing collection, while the golf world showered him with praise. He had a wild night celebrating a remarkable win, while Augusta members resumed their activities at the club.
Now that everything is back to normal, what happens at the iconic ground? It is set to close for several months.
David Ramsey of Front Office Sports detailed that Augusta won’t get back to business immediately. Instead, they give access to certain people before closing for a long period.
“On the Monday after the tournament, select VIPs from Masters sponsors and broadcasters get to play Augusta National, as do the 28 winners of the Masters press lottery. After that, grandstands, leaderboards, and other temporary structures constructed for the Masters will start to come down and the Green Jackets of Augusta National will return to member play—but not for too long.
“Augusta National closes each year in mid-May just as the Georgia summer heat is ramping up. The course remains closed for nearly half the year, typically re-opening in mid-October,” he wrote.
The club uses this time to make renovations. Last year, large trees were replanted after several fell down during Hurricane Helene in 2024.
