Why Reebok Came Back to Golf

Reebok has been part of professional golf since John Daly won the Open Championship on the Old Corse at St. Andrews in 1995.

Eventually, they moved away from the game, but that all changed last Friday.

Bryson DeChambeau may be the most popular professional golfer in the world.

His U.S. Open win at Pinehurst No. 2 put him on a pedestal, pushing off whoever you want to name.

Since that win, DeChambeau has been popular at any event he plays in and on social media, recently trying to make a hole-in-one hitting wedges over his house to a green in his backyard.

Last Friday, Reebok and DeChambeau announced a long-term partnership with the two-time major winner and his LIV Golf League team, Crushers GC.

Since it is a reintroduction of the brand to professional golf, I had a chance to ask Todd Krinsky, the CEO of Reebok, some questions by e-mail about why they returned to golf.

Can you talk about Reebok’s decision to get back into golf?

Reebok’s return to the performance golf category is part of our overarching mission to return Reebok to its rightful place in sport. We have a rich history in the golf category, and we’re excited to make our return by paying homage to our legacy while evolving golf culture through Reebok’s irreverent and approachable lens.

Can you talk about the decision to go with LIV versus other tours?

LIV’s modern approach to the game of golf has been a driving force for the category’s continued expansion, making them an ideal partner to kick-off Reebok’s re-entry into the game.

What is it that Bryson DeChambeau brings to Reebok?

Bryson is the number one athlete redefining golf and expanding it to global relevancy, attracting a whole new audience. We have a shared goal to do things differently and redefine what it means to be an athlete, and we’re thrilled to have him join the Reebok family.

When you launch the Bryson line, what will be the focus?

While I can’t share too many details just yet, Bryson’s co-branded Reebok Golf line will feature a range of performance golf apparel offerings that we designed hand in hand with Bryson to offer top of the line performance support through a fresh, modern design.

What does the new Nano Golf shoe offer golfers that they can’t find elsewhere?

The Reebok Nano Golf is designed for the new school athlete. It features a premium look and feel suitable for professionals and novices alike, while being moderately priced to make the game of golf more accessible for all levels.

Has the almost immediate growth of the recreational game created a reason for Reebok to return to golf?

There’s no better time than now for Reebok to re-enter the category given the rapid growth of the recreational game. With a focus on accessibility and approachability, we’re excited to help introduce golf to even more consumers.

Will Reebok look to sign other players?

Expanding our roster is definitely a priority!
