WM Phoenix Open odds and best bets

Last week might not have been the best Pebble Beach Pro-Am, but it was great for Tom Hoge, who got his first PGA Tour win and first win of any kind in more than a decade.

Leaving California, the PGA Tour is not heading far for this week's WM Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Ariz.

John Rahm is back in the field and at the top of the odds board at +750. In the top five after Rahm are Justin Thomas (+1200), Patrick Cantlay (+1400), Viktor Hovland (+1600) and Hideki Matsuyama (+1600)

Also, if you look a little lower you can get Brooks Koepka at +3000. You might not get him at a better price all season long. He is not listed below but might be worth a look.

Whoever wins will have played against one of the best fields we have seen this season. Six of the top 10 and 14 of the 20 best players in the world are competing.

Bets to Consider

Bubba Watson Top 20 (+175)

We got a couple of good reasons to think Watson is going to have a strong week. For starters, he has been good in this event in the past with two top-five finishes in the last three years. Also, even though he has not been playing on the Tour, he has been playing well. He was second at the Saudi International last week.

Russell Henley +4100

Henley is a long shot but you gotta pick one of those for each event, just to make it a little more fun, right? He has a second place at the Sony this season as a high and a couple of top 20s at this event in the past. So there has been some success there to build on.

Jon Rahm Top Ten (-110)

I know the payoff is not as big as some of the other bets, but you have to look at this one as being like betting the spread on an NBA game on a random night because that is the same payoff. Rahm is at the top of the odds board and one of the most consistent players on the Tour. He can win any event, but you trade some payoff for a lot more certainty. Not the most exciting play but a win is a win.

Justin Thomas (+1200)

You could play Thomas the same way you are playing Rahm above but with the higher payoff. There is really good value here because Thomas has a good combination of success this season (three top-five finishes) and a good track record at this event (top 20 in each of the last four years, including two top-three finishes). That is more than worth taking a gamble on.
