Wyndham Clark calls out Presidents Cup fans

Team USA is on home soil for the 2026 Presidents Cup, but it didn't feel like a typical home game on Day 1. The fans at Medinah Country Club weren't as rowdy as the Americans would've liked, and PGA Tour star Wyndham Clark made sure to let them know.

"It was kind of dead out there," Clark said after he and Collin Morikawa defeated Adam Scott and Ryan Fox, 3 and 2, per ESPN. "I felt like the momentum could have been better, to be honest, because we weren't really feeling the fans, I think, as much as normal."

The home team at the Presidents Cup always has a major advantage due to the atmosphere created by tens of thousands of fans. Team USA is 8-0 at the Presidents Cup on home soil, partly because it feeds off the raucous crowd. An electric crowd not only builds momentum for the home side — but it also puts more pressure on Team International and causes timid shots. 

We didn't see that unfold on Day 1, as the Americans escaped the first session with a 3-2 lead.

Clark wasn't the only member of Team USA who was disappointed with the Medinah crowd.

"I really felt like the fans were out there and they were there, but the first tee was loud, and then it just kind of dissipated as the day went on," Team USA captain Brandt Snedker said. "I don't know why. I think part of it was because the golf course was set up pretty difficult. There were some really tough pins out there, so it was really hard to get a lot of birdies going and get guys going crazy, I guess. And there's some tough viewing out there on some of the holes where people really couldn't see what was going on."
