All-time great gymnast Simone Biles furthered her legacy at the 2024 Paris Olympics this past summer, adding four more Olympic medals to her stacked trophy case.
At 28 years old, Biles claimed top honors in the all-around, vault and team events. She also notched silver in the floor exercise, finishing slightly behind Brazilian gymnastics superstar Rebeca Andrade.
With the 2024 Olympics now in the rearview, Biles is now turning her attention toward one of the country's most iconic celebrity events.
Biles will attend the Met Gala on Monday night. The Olympics shared the news of Biles' plans in a post on its official website. Fellow Olympians Sha'Carri Richardson and LeBron James will also be in attendance.
"Among the celebrities and cultural icons walking the famous steps are several Olympic athletes. Simone Biles, one of the most decorated gymnasts in Olympic history, is expected to attend the gala after turning heads at the Kentucky Derby, while Paris 2024 Olympic gold medallist, sprint sensation and fashion icon Sha’Carri Richardson will undoubtedly shine in New York. Tennis superstar Serena Williams, a longtime Met Gala favourite, is set to return to the red carpet again this year," the website reads.
NBA star and three-time Olympic Champion LeBron James will also play a key role as an honorary co-chair, alongside F1 driver Lewis Hamilton.
Biles shared the news of her upcoming attendance during a recent interview. The superstar gymnast will be accompanied by her husband Jonathan Owens, a safety for the NFL's Chicago Bears.
"Oh my gosh, I am really excited," Biles said. "Obviously no training goes into the Met, so I'm happy about that.
"It's really just getting in fitting, seeing what you're going to wear, and then going from there. ... It will be tailored, it will be a custom dress, I'm going back and forth between two right now. Both custom looks for me, so I'm excited."
Monday night's Met Gala takes place the day before Biles' and Owens' second wedding anniversary.
"It is date night it'll be the day before our wedding, second wedding anniversary as well," she continued. "So it'll be really exciting to celebrate at the Met with him."
