In a history-making feat at Fonner Park, trainer Isai Gonzalez saddled six winners on a single card Saturday at the Grand Island, Neb. track, and sensationally all in succession.
Gonzalez's streak began when GSH Stable's Astern Banker ($8) captured the second race under Kevin Roman, followed by Enrique Ventura's Overtaxed ($9.20) under Jose Medina in the third race, and GSH Stable's Special Operator ($8.40) with Medina aboard in the fourth race. Roman guided in the following three winners: GSH Stable's Itsnotmyjob ($3.80) in the fifth race, GSH Stable's Sea Force ($7) in the sixth race, and Cavello Veloce Stable's Lode of Blarney ($8.80) in the seventh race to cap the banner day.
Overall, Gonzalez sent had 10 starters Saturday's 10 race card. His Parlay Pete was second to stablemate Overtaxed in the third race, and he also sent out American Joey, who was second to barnmate Special Operator in the fourth, marking back-to-back exactas.
Gonzalez had two other runners finish off the board in their respective races: His Giant, who was sixth in the ninth race, and Royal Consort, the sixth-place finisher in the eighth race. He had no runners in the first race or the Race 10 finale.
A Fonner Park mainstay since 2017 when he topped the trainer standings, Gonzalez currently ranks first, with 10 winners and $57,352 in purse earnings. He finished second in the standings in 2018, then returned to top the trainer ranks in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023.
The Fonner Park meet runs through May 4.
