Tampa Bay Derby winner Domestic Product will likely train up to the Kentucky Derby, trainer Chad Brown told the Daily Racing Form this week. Initially, Brown had considered sending the son of Practical Joke out for another start before the first Saturday in May, but the trainer has now changed his mind.
“The more I look at it, his last two races were good, strong races that he got a lot out of,” Brown told DRF. “He was really finishing in both races hard and I’m thinking he has the conditioning he needs. Potentially putting a race in between could flatten him. I need to see this horse work, then he’ll tell me.”
Prior to winning the G2 Tampa Bay Derby by a hard-fought neck, Domestic Product finished second behind Hades in the G3 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream.
The 3-year-old is a homebred for Seth Klarman's Klaravich Stables, and is out of the unraced Paynter mare Goods and Services.
