Both of trainer Chad Brown's 2024 Kentucky Derby qualifiers are regularly ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, who has elected to ride one of the likely favorites, G1 Blue Grass Stakes winner Sierra Leone, in the Run for the Roses.
According to the Thoroughbred Daily News, reigning champion jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. will pick up the mount on Brown's other 3-year-old, the G2 Tampa Bay Derby winner Domestic Product.
A homebred for Seth Klarman's Klaravich Stables, Domestic Product won the Tampa Bay Derby in a four-horse photo after finishing second in the G2 Holy Bull. The son of Practical Joke owns two wins from five starts, but Brown said Domestic Product may be better than he looks on paper.
“Tyler said to me, 'He's not that far behind (Sierra Leone),” Brown told TDN. “'Trust me, the horse goes a mile and a quarter. There's not as much separating these horses as you think.' That's what he told me.”
