The Kentucky Derby Museum celebrated the grand opening of its new Long Shots display with a sold-out crowd during the final event of the 2024 Legends Series on Wednesday, March 27.

The Long Shots mini-exhibit features artifacts from five of the longest shots to ever win the Kentucky Derby®: Rich Strike (2022), Country House (2019), Mine That Bird (2009), Giacomo (2005), and Donerail (1913). As a special addition to the exhibit, Mine That Bird will have a temporary residence at the Kentucky Derby Museum Stable through April 19. The public can explore the exhibit and visit the stable by purchasing a general admission ticket.

During Wednesday's event, guests were able to mingle with the winning long shot connections, explore the new mini-exhibit, and meet Mine That Bird. Guests also participated in a live auction for multiple prize packages that included generous donations of several rare memorabilia items from the Derby-winning long shots. The live auction raised just over $14,000 to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the Museum.

The Legends Series, hosted by renowned bourbon connoisseur Fred Minnick, is a highlight on the Museum's annual calendar, bringing together horse racing fans and bourbon enthusiasts. Rob Samuels, 8th-generation distiller and Managing Director of the Maker's Mark Distillery, lead an exclusive lineup of five tastings during the event, which included the Kentucky Derby Museum's Private Selection.

A limited supply of the Museum's Private Barrel Selection is available to purchase from the Kentucky Derby Museum Store.
