Now that the full roster for the 2023-24 All-Value Sire Team has been selected, let's take a closer look at each member, continuing on with First Team Veteran Sire Midshipman at Darley America.

As the First Team Veteran Sire, Midshipman represents bloodstock editor Joe Nevills' top choice among stallions standing for $20,000 or less with five or more crops of racing age, based on a combination of progeny performance on the racetrack and in the auction ring, pedigree, physical inspection, and overall momentum.

Despite standing for just $15,000, Midshipman has produced figures that rival stallions standing for multiples of his fee. His 58 percent winners from horses of racing age ranked him third among value sires, and gave him a higher figure than all North American stallions standing for $70,000 or more, save for Tapit (62 percent) and War Front (58 percent).

"There is so much value in knowing what you have when it comes to planning a mating," Nevills wrote in his analysis. "Midshipman can give you a consistency that few others in the stud book can offer at any price."
