Now that the full roster for the 2023-24 All-Value Sire Team has been selected, let's take a closer look at each member, continuing on with Second Team Freshman Sire Vekoma at Spendthrift Farm.

As the Second Team Freshman Sire, Vekoma represents bloodstock editor Joe Nevills' runner-up choice among stallions standing for $20,000 or less whose first foals are 2-year-olds of 2024, based on a combination of on-track performance, progeny performance, pedigree, physical, and commercial momentum.

Vekoma has an incredible pipeline of foals to support his endeavors, starting with 222 mares bred in his inaugural book - the fourth most of any stallion in North America during the 2021 breeding season.

Even more promising is the continued support Vekoma received with his second crop of weanlings during last year's fall mixed sales, posting a median sale price of $52,500. In a business where buyers can be quick to abandon second-crop sires for the shiny new names in the stud book, that kind of commitment shows that the appeal of Vekoma's foals goes beyond commercial conventions.

"Vekoma has a lot of things going for him to be a top freshman sire in 2024, and people have already lined up to take advantage if he hits," Nevills wrote in his analysis. "If you believe in him, this might be one of your last chances to get him at this price."
