Christian Lundgaard paces IndyCar final practice at Gateway

Christian Lundgaard was the fastest driver in IndyCar final practice at Gateway on Saturday night but isn't sure if he can contend for the win on Sunday.

"It looks a lot better than I think it is," Lundgaard told Fox Sports of his No. 7 Chevrolet.

Regardless, Lundgaard was quick on Saturday evening, laying down a fastest lap of 26.50 seconds/169.791 miles per hour around the 1.25-mile oval in the final of three practice sessions ahead of the ninth race of the 2026 NTT IndyCar Series season. 

Notable practice results

Scott Dixon, Marcus Armstrong, polesitter Alex Palou and David Malukas rounded out the top five, with Rinus VeeKay, Josef Newgarden, rookie Dennis Hauger, Kyle Kirkwood and Will Power completing the top 10.

Other notable practice results include rookie Caio Collet in 12th, Indianapolis 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist in 13th, Scott McLaughlin in 15th, Pato O'Ward in 16th and Christian Rasmussen in 18th. 

Louis Foster was the slowest driver in the session, putting together a best lap of 27.100 seconds/166.046 miles per hour.

Palou had the best five and 10-lap averages during the session. He enters the race as the series points leader with a 62-point advantage over second-place Kirkwood.
