David Malukas paces IndyCar final practice at Nashville

Just hours after a hard crash in the first practice session of the IndyCar race weekend at Nashville Superspeedway put him in the hospital, Team Penske driver David Malukas was the fastest driver in final practice for Sunday's Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix.

The 24-year-old from Chicago turned a fastest lap of 24.15 seconds/193.766 miles per hour around the 1.33-mile track in Lebanon, Tennessee.

Malukas took the top spot late in the session from polesitter Kyle Kirkwood, who topped the speed chart in practice early Saturday morning.

Notable practice results

Malukas' Team Penske teammate, Scott McLaughlin, was second-fastest, with Marcus Armstrong, Mick Schumacher and Indianapolis 500 champion Felix Rosenqvist rounding out the top five. Santino Ferrucci, Kirkwood, points leader Alex Palou, Caio Collet and Rinus VeeKay completed the top 10.

Other notable practice results include rookie Dennis Hauger in 12th, Scott Dixon in 14th, Christian Rasmussen in 17th, Will Power in 18th and Pato O'Ward in 20th. Graham Rahal was the slowest driver in the session (25th), turning a fastest lap of only 26.45 seconds/176.909 miles per hour.

Armstrong crashed in the closing minutes of practice, while Rahal's hellacious day, which included him being the slowest in practice 1 and not being able to make a qualifying lap, continued with an incident in the session as well.
