Three-time IndyCar champion and 2025 Indianapolis 500 winner Alex Palou has every reason to be cocky after winning five of the first eight races of 2025 and holding a 73-point lead in the standings, but the 28-year-old driver remains focused on improving his craft.
Palou has won the last two IndyCar championships, and after winning five of the first six races of 2025, including the Indy 500, he's in prime position to win a third consecutive title.
That doesn't stop Palou from always thinking about what he can do to get better.
"It's the beauty of this sport, that you can always get better," Palou said during a virtual news conference with the media on Wednesday. "You can always get better at going a little bit faster, getting more speed, saving tires, saving more fuel — you can always be a little bit better.
"It's the beauty of motorsport, you can always keep pushing yourself," Palou continued. "Where do I think I can get better? Everything. I could be better on short ovals, better on qualifying up front, defending moves — there's always stuff that you can improve on."
That mindset could be a reason for the slew of success that Palou has experienced since the Spaniard came to IndyCar in 2020. As the circuit prepares for the ninth race of the season at Road America in Wisconsin on Sunday (1:30 p.m. ET, FOX) Palou enters the event not only as the championship leader, but as a two-time Road America winner and one of the heavy favorites to return to victory lane at the famous road course.
