Entirety of Indianapolis 500 qualifying moved to Sunday

Positions 16-33 on the Indianapolis 500 grid were scheduled to be set on Saturday, but Mother Nature had other ideas.

Consistent rain on Saturday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway canceled an early-morning practice session and the first day of qualifying at IMS, moving the entirety of Indy 500 qualifying to Sunday. It's the first time since 2008 that an entire day of qualifying at IMS has been washed out.

The full field will now begin qualifying at noon ET Sunday, with the top-12 moving on to the Fast 12 and the Fast 6 competing for the pole late Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening.

Practice will begin at 9:30 a.m. ET on FS2, with qualifying coverage continuing on FS2 until 4 p.m. ET. At 4 p.m., television coverage will shift to FOX as drivers battle for the pole.

What lies ahead at IMS

The IndyCar Radio Network will also carry complete coverage of practice and qualifying.

Following Sunday's qualifying session, only two practice sessions — one on Monday and one on Friday, May 22 — remain ahead of the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 on May 24.

Scott Dixon will be the first driver out in qualifying on Sunday, with Katherine Legge being the last driver to make their first attempt.
