A legend is returning to the Superstar Racing Experience, as Helio Castroneves will get back behind the wheel for Thursday Night Thunder.

The IndyCar legend’s return was announced on Tuesday, and anticipation immediately started to build. As the campaign takes SRX to Motor Mile Speedway, Castroneves will be looking for a victory.

Check out the announcement below, as it’s evident the excitement is palpable for Castroneves’ return to the series.

“HELLLIIIIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO is back,” tweeted SRX, gearing up for Thursday’s event.

The rest of the field better watch out, as the four-time Indianapolis 500 winner is playing for keeps. If he’s joining the race, he’s attempting to win, not just tick off laps and have some fun.

A bevy of other drivers will be looking to stop Castroneves from getting the victory, from former NASCAR stars Clint Bowyer and Ryan Newman, to Castroneves’ IndyCar rivals in Josef Newgarden, Paul Tracy and Marco Andretti.

Earlier in the season, the aforementioned Newman went out and got the job done again at Stafford Speedway. Newman captured his second win in the SRX Series at Stafford, setting him up to compete for a championship this year.

Moreover, that race that saw Newman find victory lane was a ton of fun. Additionally, Ken Schrader deserved a ton of credit for finishing fourth. Elsewhere, Kenny Wallace almost chased down Tony Stewart for sixth. Haillie Deegan also picked up eighth place, and finishing ahead of the likes of Brad Keselowski, Paul Tracy, Tony Kanaan, and Ryan Preece.

Continuing, it was heartbreak for Ryan Preece. Ryan Newman wasn’t going to be the winner until Preece got loose and into the wall. It also helped that Kanaan lost brakes and Tracy also suffered mechanical issues.

Alas, the main event at Stafford did not go as planned as a whole for Preece. Leading up to his issue on Lap 65/80, Preece had been nothing but great. He was rock solid in the heats prior to the main. The crowd was of course, behind him to the fullest extent. They had seen it all from Preece, just not the win.

Nevertheless, now with Helio Castroneves rejoining the fold for the Superstar Racing Experience, who knows what we’ll see go down on Thursday. It’s going to be a must-see event, as some of the best drivers in the world take on Motor Mile Speedway. Make sure you find your nearest television and get ready for some fun.
