Terrifying moment for Alexander Rossi and his pit crew during the Indianapolis 500. A fire broke out, covering a pit crew member. Rossi brought his car into the pits to get worked on as smoke or steam was flowing out of the back of it on the track. That’s when things escalated.

The pit crew member appears to be fine. However, for a brief moment, fire engulfed him and covered his hands as he attempted to put the fire out on the car.

Rossi had to leave the car, visibly frustrated. From there, the flames spread and safety crews worked with every extinguisher that they could get their hands on. This could have been much worse. A wild Indianapolis 500 today so far.

Mike Miller, the fueler for the No. 20 car, is the crew member who caught on fire. He was ready with an extinguisher of his own to take care of the car, but it soon spread, covering his body and his hands. Mille gave a thumbs-up on TV after the incident.

Today’s cooler temperatures may be to blame for so many issues on the track and on pit road. This track is cold relative to what you would normally expect this time of the year. We have seen multiple incidents on pit road.

Almost immediately after Rossi’s incident, Robert Shwartzman, the pole-sitting rookie, slammed into his pit crew. Multiple cars have had brake failures. What more can you say about this race? It is pure chaos.

Scott McLaughlin wrecked on the warm-up laps before the green flag. Since then, it has been nothing but one incident after another.

With every caution, these tires cool down, and so does the track. With the new hybrid systems on the cars this year, drivers say that it is much harder to handle than in previous years. Each restart is a gamble for these drivers.

Kyle Larson out of Indianapolis 500 early

Everyone was worried that Kyle Larson had run out of time to make the Coca-Cola 600. His day is now done after wrecking on Lap 93. Larson was caught up in a wreck on a restart that included String Ray Robb and Kyffin Simpson. The NASCAR driver’s Double attempt is done.

Tony Stewart remains the only driver to complete all 1100 miles of the Double. Kyle Larson downshifted into the turn and spun out. The Cup Series champion made a couple of mistakes today that ultimately cost him a chance at completing the Double.

Despite the delays today at Indianapolis, Larson will make it to Charlotte on time. He starts the Coca-Cola 600 P2 later tonight.

Many teams and drivers are just hoping that they aren’t the next to be bitten by Indy today. A whirlwind of a race so far, whoever wins this race is going to have to earn it the hard way. It is becoming a race of attrition with every lap and pit stop.
