20 household items that are acceptable to regift during the holidays

The holidays are dubbed the most wonderful time of the year, but whoever came up with that had to have had an endless source of income because it can and is often super stressful when shopping for everyone in your life. Accept regifting as a reality to ease the mind (and wallet).

While not everything in your home is good to go in a gift box and presented as new, there are more than a few things that can be regifted, and no one will be the wiser about it. Just remember that regifted items should not be torn apart, mangled, or heavily used. That’s just not the holiday spirit!

There are always those people who have way too many books in their home — the type of people who buy several whenever they pass a bookstore. If that sounds familiar, it might be time to lighten the personal library and start giving books one already owns to loved ones. Even better, write a personal note on a bookmark about why this book was a perfect choice for them.

Those who have abandoned their creative spark throughout the year, leaving unopened and untouched craft supplies taking up space in a random closet corner, can rejoice in knowing that one of their friends’ kids is going to love a gift basket made up of all of that.

Candles are the gifts people get for those they know but don’t really know, so more often than not they sit on a shelf, never to be lit. Those would be ideal for coworkers, teachers, and anyone else one feels they know, but yeah, don’t really know like that.

Gift cards

Plenty of companies hand out gift cards for birthdays, holidays, and bonuses. Some can go unused, and when they do, that’s the perfect thing to dig up from a junk drawer, toss into a nice card, and re-gift.

Way too many journals are bought and used maybe once. Rip out the written-on pages, jot down a sentimental note inside the cover, and give it to someone who may just pen the next great classic.

Have a pair of shoes that were worn once or twice for something like a wedding or work event and never seen on your feet again? It’s time to stop holding onto them.

Furniture that isn’t some basic piece from a big box store that was inherited or perhaps found antiquing that might not fit into one’s personal space anymore is great to gift to others who can make it their own.

While stores might have abandoned physical media, audio and cinephiles still want nothing more than to hold a CD or DVD in their hands. Those with a bunch in their attic might want to start thinking about who’d appreciate those in their lives instead of just letting them collect dust.

People who have gotten one too many of those beauty/bath gift baskets know all too well how they can pile up. Either regift the whole thing or break those baskets down and disperse them to multiple people.

Winter coats can be expensive, but they also last a long time. Old ones are as good as new to those in need of warmth in the colder months.

Those with unused kitchen gadgets who really only ever have their food delivered need to clear out their cupboards and give those appliances to people who’ll use them.

Instruments can cost an arm and a leg, so those who have friends who have kids who are looking to get into band will appreciate an old tuba, flute, guitar, etc.
