Nonprofit organizations work towards developing various sectors of a country. But there aren’t many like The Lift US Foundation and InnerCity Weightlifting that try to lead the population to a healthier life by emphasizing fitness.

A report from the NBA on June 26 highlighted the commendable initiatives of these two organizations, detailing their approach towards leading more people to mental and physical wellness. The Lift US Foundation founder, Mike Jenkins, gave his take on the end goal of his initiative.

“The need in the community is very foundational about strength and health in general, physical and mental,” said Jenkins. “I locked in on a term I like to call generational health, and what that means is the young people in our program become the healthiest in their families, and they take those values going forward in their own.”

The Lift US Foundation also plans to empower the youth with their partnership with the NBA Foundation.

The other nonprofit organization, as per Branson Brooks from NBA, in this venture is InnerCity Weightlifting, which initially helps people with personal training to overcome their systemic barrier-induced mental and physical issues. One of their most appreciable efforts is to help individuals with histories of gang involvement earn professional certifications and connect them to clients.

Ian Kilpatrick, InnerCity Weightlifting’s Head of Development, revealed how their goal is similar to the Lift US Foundation’s objectives

“Learn how to work out safely, learn how to give your friends a workout, and then tell us what you need, what kind of jobs you’re interested in, what’s holding you back from some stability.”

However, these two are far from being the only organizations that are working towards this cause.

More nonprofit US organisations that aim to lead people to healthier lives

While The Lift US Foundation and the ICW take steps towards empowering people, besides leading them towards a fitter life, other organizations work with the same goal, minus the empowering part.

Here’s a list of a few such organizations:

  • American Council on Exercise (ACE): A nonprofit organization meant to educate fitness instructors and health coaches to prevent physical and mental issues stemming from lifestyle.
  • Body Positive Fitness Alliance (BPFA): Another nonprofit organization promoting a fit lifestyle with inclusivity for people of all shapes and sizes. It aims to make the fitness industry welcoming and fun.
  • Health and Fitness Association (previously IHRSA): A nonprofit organization that promotes health and fitness by running various industry research and active living programs worldwide.

So, if you are planning to start your fitness journey regardless of age or shape, you now know your destination.

Are you thinking of registering under any of these organizations?
