Digestion and gut health have long been issues discussed by many celebrities. Kourtney Kardashian shared about her go-to remedy for gut health. The women’s fashion and celebrity gossip magazine, Grazia, reported how olive oil plays a big role in Kardashian’s diet.

The entrepreneur, focused on health, wellness, and lifestyle, said she drinks olive oil first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach.

The simple, consistent routine has helped her survive long, busy days without her gut taking a toll. Kardashian’s routine went viral on social media. Wellness and fitness influencers began adopting the same routine because of its medical benefits.

“Polyphenols are powerful plant compounds that support a healthy gut, brain, heart, and more,” said cardiologist and nutrition expert Dr. Steven Gundry. “My Polyphenol olive oil is different because it is sourced from Moroccan olives and contains 30x more hydroxytyrosol polyphenols than most olive oils.”

She’s not the only one taking this routine so seriously. Jennifer Lopez, at 56, also goes by this important routine. She has pointed out the benefits of this, healthy fats, which help keep her skin youthful.

Similarly, Gwyneth Paltrow has also incorporated olive oil shots in her routine; she has been seen promoting it through her lifestyle brand Goop.

How Healthy is Kourtney Kardashian’s Olive Oil Shot Routine

While Kardashian has set a trend online, the benefits of taking olive oil in the morning were studied by JAMA Network Open. The long-term experiment observed over 92,000 adults across 28 years, who consumed more than 7 grams of olive oil per day.

As reported by the Charlotte Observer, the people had a 28% lower risk of dying from dementia-related causes. The benefit appeared regardless of the participants’ overall diet quality, and the amount required is small enough to fit easily into most daily meals.

Kardashian sure takes olive oil on an empty stomach, but there is no hard-and-fast rule that taking it with food will not be beneficial. Meanwhile, people consuming olive oil must be mindful of their overall diet.

“The thing people don’t realize is that no matter what type of fat they’re consuming, it all has the same calories,” registered dietitian nutritionist Mindy Haar, assistant dean at New York Institute of Technology’s School of Health Professions, told Time: A tablespoon of lard and a tablespoon of olive oil are equal in number of calories.”

For most people, consuming one to two tablespoons of olive oil has been found to be healthy. Kardashian’s reported daily intake falls within the recommended range.
