2024 MLB Postseason Bracket: Wild Card Series Matchups, Schedule, TV Info & Start Times

The 2024 MLB postseason is set with all 12 teams — six in the American League and six in the National League — having clinched their playoff spots and games getting underway Monday with the Wild Card Series.

Although the regular season was supposed to finish up on Sunday to give every team an off-day before the playoffs began, the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets had to play a doubleheader on Monday to make up a pair of postponed games. The matchups had major implications for the playoff field.

The Mets and Braves split their series, which put the Braves in the No. 5 seed and the Mets as the No. 6 seed. In addition, that eliminated the Arizona Diamondbacks, which needed one of the two teams to sweep the series to secure their spot.

That series affected who the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers could potentially face as well in the NL Division Series.

Both 2023 World Series contenders, the Texas Rangers and Diamondbacks, missed out on the postseason this year.

2024 MLB Postseason Bracket

Wild Card Series

The Wild Card Series is a best-of-three format with all games being played at the higher-seed’s stadium over the course of three days. Games take place from Oct. 1-3 with the final day only being necessary in the event of a split in the first two games.

Detroit Tigers @ Houston Astros

The Detroit Tigers make a remarkable run in the second half of the season to earn the sixth seed in the AL postseason picture. That means they face off against the Houston Astros, who made the postseason by way of winning the AL West as the No. 3 seed in the AL side.

The winner of this series will go on to face the No. 2 Cleveland Guardians.

Kansas City Royals @ Baltimore Orioles

The Royals were a surprise contender this season, earning the No. 5 seed carried by a strong pitching staff and the breakout superstar Bobby Witt Jr. They face off against the No. 4 seed and top Wild Card winner Baltimore Orioles, another young and highly talented roster led by Gunnar Henderson.

The winner will advance to face the No. 1 seed in the AL, the New York Yankees.

New York Mets @ Milwaukee Brewers

After a slow start to the season, the Mets went on a run as the best team in baseball for quite a bit to secure them into the No. 6 seed in the NL. That earned them a matchup against the No. 3 seed and NL Central champion Brewers.

The winner will advance to face the No. 2 seed Philadelphia Phillies.

Atlanta Braves @ San Diego Padres

A common theme here is a slow start for the Wild Card teams before a hot second half propelled them into the playoff picture, and the San Diego Padres are no different. No one played better baseball than the Padres in the second half of the season as they earned the top Wild Card spot in the NL.

The Braves overcame a significant number of injuries to sneak into the playoffs as the No. 5 seed.

The winner of this series will advance to face the No. 1 seed Dodgers.

League Division Series

The LDS starts Oct. 5 for all teams and runs through Oct. 11 for the NL and Oct. 12 for the AL. The best-of-five series features a 2-2-1 format for the stadium with the higher seed hosting the first two and the last while traveling to the lower seed’s stadium for the middle two.

Games 4 and 5 will only be played if no team reaches three wins prior to those.

Detroit Tigers or Houston Astros @ Cleveland Guardians

Kansas City Royals or Baltimore Orioles @ New York Yankees

New York Mets or Milwaukee Brewers @ Philadelphia Phillies

Atlanta Braves or San Diego Padres @ Los Angeles Dodgers

League Championship Series

The League Championship Series starts Oct. 13 for the NL and the following day for the AL. The NLCS concludes by Oct. 21 while the AL concludes by Oct. 22. The best-of-seven series would only require Games 5, 6 and 7 no team reaches four wins by then.

The LCS follows a 2-3-2 format where the higher seed hosts the first two and last two games while the lower seed takes the middle three.

Lower-seed ALDS winner @ Higher-seed ALDS winner

Lower-seed NLDS winner @ Higher-seed NLDS winner

World Series

The World Series begins on Oct. 25 and will be concluded by Nov. 2. It follows the same 2-3-2 format as the LCS and features a best-of-seven series as well.

The higher seed will have home-field advantage, and in the event two teams with the same seeding match up, the team with the better record in the season will determine who gets the advantage. If both teams have the same record, their head-to-head results from during the season is the tiebreaker.

The Dodgers hold home-field advantage over all teams by way of finishing with the best record in baseball.
