2024 Year In Review: Giancarlo Stanton
USA TODAY Sports

Giancarlo Stanton provided his usual power to the New York Yankees’ lineup in 2024.

The designated hitter was a consistent force in the heart of the team’s batting order throughout the regular season. He also propelled the Yankees to their first World Series appearance in 15 years.

Stanton played in 114 games during the season, his most since 2021. A left hamstring strain kept him off of the field for a little over a month, but that was the only missed time by the player Brian Cashman said that injury “as a part of his game” last offseason.

Stanton hit 27 home runs and drove in 72 runs. Both numbers were the third-highest on the Yankees behind Aaron Judge and Juan Soto. He also hit .233 with a .773 OPS and 0.7 wins above replacement.

Stanton’s best game of the season by win probability added came in a 7-6 loss to the Baltimore Orioles back on June 19. The slugger went 2-4 with a walk. The righty came up to bat with the Yankees trailing 4-1 in the seventh, and he tied the game with a three-run homer. Stanton then hit an RBI single in the ninth to send the game to extra innings after the Orioles had reclaimed the lead.

Stanton was one of the team’s best players in the playoffs. He hit seven home runs and drove in 16 runs while posting a 1.048 OPS in 14 games. The slugger was named the ALCS MVP as he hit four homers, including a two-run shot in the final game of the series.

Stanton’s late-season power surge gave the Yankees a glimpse of hope moving into 2025. The return of Soto is uncertain, leaving Stanton as the team’s biggest power threat behind Judge. The DH is expected to remain in the middle of the Bronx Bombers’ order next season.
