Jazz Chisholm Jr. was the New York Yankees’ biggest trade deadline acquisition during the 2024 season.
Chisholm started the year with the Miami Marlins, but the Bronx Bombers dealt three players to bring in the former All-Star. He became a crucial part of the Yankees’ lineup for the remainder of the regular season and their run to the World Series.
Chisholm had been the Marlins’ center fielder to start the season but made the transition to third base with the Yankees. He also has experience as an everyday second baseman during his career.
Chisholm played in 46 games after the trade with the Yankees. He batted .273 with 11 home runs, 23 RBIs, 18 stolen bases, and a .825 OPS. The lefty-hitter ended up setting career highs across the board over the course of the full season. He had a 2.7 WAR in 146 games while recording 144 hits, 21 doubles, 24 homers, 73 runs batted in, 40 steals, and 74 runs scored.
Chisholm’s best game by win probability added came on July 30 against the Philadelphia Phillies. He drove in five runs and hit a pair of home runs in the team’s 7-6 extra-inning victory. It marked the second straight game that the third baseman had hit multiple home runs, as he did so in the series opener as well.
Chisholm played in every postseason game while hitting in the middle third of the Bronx Bombers’ lineup. He went 10-55 with a pair of solo homers and six stolen bases during the Yankees’ 14 playoff games.
Chisholm is under contract for the next two years before reaching free agency. He is expected to be a staple in the Yankees’ lineup in 2025 and could be asked to either remain as the team’s third baseman or switch positions yet again.
