The Padres lost a significant piece to their lineup on April 8 for the near future, as Jackson Merrill was placed on the injured list. Merrill was one of several notable players to be placed on the IL that day.
The Padres lost a key piece to their team on April 8, as the newly extended outfielder Jackson Merrill went on the injured list with a right hamstring strain. Oscar Gonzalez, off to a hot start at Triple-A, was called up to replace Merrill.
Merrill was off to a hot start to the year, as the 21-year-old — who came into the year with a slightly different stance & setup at the plate — was hitting .378 with three home runs and five extra-base hits over 10 games.
Matt McLain missed all of 2024 thanks to left shoulder surgery. And after just eight games in 2025, McLain is back on the injured list.
This is a different injury, as McLain is out with a slight left hamstring strain.
McLain hit three home runs over his first eight contests this season. But, his Whiff% spiked to 36.7% over the small sample size.
As expected, the Astros placed Spencer Arrighetti on the injured list. Arrighetti fractured his thumb in a batting practice mishap on April 7.
Mariners outfielder Victor Robles, who was placed on the IL yesterday, will miss at least 12 weeks and could be out for the remainder of the 2025 season. An MRI revealed a small fracture in the humeral head of the shoulder. As of now, he’s on pace to avoid surgery.
Milwaukee got back reliever Nick Mears from the IL. However, Rule 5 Draft pick Connor Thomas landed on the injured list with left elbow arthritis.
Twins start Pablo Lopez exited his start on April 8, with what the team stated was right hamstring tightness. Per the team, it’s not considered to be a major injury.
Catchers Jake Rogers (Tigers) and Connor Wong (Red Sox) landed on the injured list.
Cody Bradford (Rangers), John Means (Guardians), and Wenceel Perez (Tigers) were moved to the 60-day IL. Bradford is recovering from a left elbow sprain. Means, as noted when he signed, is recovering from UCL reconstruction surgery. Perez is dealing with lumbar spine inflammation.
Josh Jung was activated from the IL.
Padres infielder Jake Cronenworth left the team’s game on April 8.
