2025 Injury Report: Pablo Lopez Out With Hamstring Strain, Moncada on IL

On a light day of MLB action, there wasn’t as much IL action. However, several notable names went to the injured list, including Yoan Moncada. And likely, Pablo Lopez will join him over the coming days.

Lopez likely heading to IL

The Twins confirmed late on April 9 that Pablo Lopez, who left his start a few days ago with a hamstring issue, was officially diagnosed with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain. He is expected to land on the IL but as of this writing, has not been placed on the injured list.

As to who could replace Lopez on the IL, it’s worth noting Zebby Matthews started for Triple-A St. Paul on April 8, the same day the former left with injury. The 24-year-old Matthews had a nice start to 2025, as he struck out 13 over 10 and conceded just one walk.

Moncada on IL

Yoan Moncada is back on the injured list. Moncada, who left the Angels’ home opener on April 4 with a thumb injury, has a right thumb sprain.

The Angels infielder played on April 9 against the Rays, hence why the IL stint isn’t retroactive. Moncada went 0-1 before leaving the game.

Moncada has 72 plate appearances since the start of 2024.

Other injury news

One day after Andrew Benintendi headed to the IL, the White Sox lost two more players to injury. Korey Lee (left ankle sprain) and Mike Tauchman (right hamstring strain) are now on the injured list, as well.

Spencer Strider continued his rehab assignment with Gwinnett (AAA) on April 10. Strider struck out 13 Norfolk Tides over 5.1 IP (90 pitches). The right-hander hit as high as 97 MPH with his four-seamer.

Austin Hays (Reds), Jesus Sanchez (Marlins), and Ranger Suarez (Phillies) are also out on rehab assignments.
