The Angels saw one of their top hitters leave the field on a stretcher during the last day of August. Luckily, both he and the team appeared to have dodged a bullet. Meanwhile, in Toronto, Max Scherzer dealt with back tightness during his last start of the month.

Updates on Angels’ injuries

Angels outfielder Taylor Ward had to be taken off the field in Houston off a stretcher during the team’s game on August 31. Ward collided with the left field scoreboard while attempting to field a fly ball during the eighth inning.

Per the team, Ward suffered a laceration above his right eye.

Additionally, the Angels placed Tyler Anderson on the 15-day IL with a left oblique strain.

Scherzer left start

Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer was removed from his start on August 31 thanks to upper back tightness, per manager John Schneider.

Schneider stated it was a dull pain, rather than a sharp one. Nonetheless, it was affecting his ability to pitch, per the Jays’ manager.

Rehab assignments

Blue Jays pitcher Alek Manoah went six innings (86 pitches) during a rehab start on August 31 for Buffalo (AAA). Manoah topped out at 94 MPH during the outing.

Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez, who sustained a broken pinky this week, went 1-5 for the team’s Triple-A affiliate.
