Just a few days after Francisco Alvarez sustained an injury, another Mets starter suffered an injury. Meanwhile, in Baltimore, Felix Bautista will be out for a significant period of time and may miss all of the 2026 season.
The Orioles announced on August 20 that closer Felix Bautista underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff on the 19th. Recovery t ime is at least 12 months, meaning Bautista could miss another full season. He missed all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery.
For reference, Bautista will have amassed four seasons of MLB experience once the 2025 campaign ends. He’ll have two more seasons of team control.
Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo left the team’s game early after one at-bat and was replaced in the field by Starling Marte.
The team stated on social media that Nimmo is dealing with neck stiffness.

The Reds placed catcher Tyler Stephenson on the 10-day IL with a left thumb fracture. It’s retroactive to August 17.
Stephenson has only played in 72 games this season. The 29-year-old missed the first month of the season with a left oblique strain.
Alek Manoah went 4.1 IP (75 pitches) for Triple-A Buffalo on August 20. Manoah averaged 91 MPH on his fastball, roughly what it was a week ago during his first outing.
In that same game, rehabbing Yankees pitcher Ryan Yarbrough struck out three over 3.1 IP (50 pitches) with Scranton (AAA).
Tigers pitcher Jose Urquidy struck out three over two innings (33 pitches). Urquidy topped out at 94 MPH.
Angels reliever Kenley Jansen stated he’s been dealing with rib discomfort over the last few days. Jansen told the media he sustained the injury in the weight room.
Yankees reliever Jonathan Loaisiga, who was rehabbing in Scranton, is believed to have suffered a flexor strain and will be going for a second opinion.
The White Sox placed Elvis Peguero on the 15-day IL with a right elbow strain.
