With 10 days left in the 2025 MLB season, more and more players have been shut down. Both the Angles and Royals placed young starters on the IL, as Ryan Bergert and Jose Soriano’s seasons are complete. Additionally, several notable players were on rehab assignments in Triple-A.
It became official on September 18, as Ryan Bergert was placed on the IL with a right elbow strain. Kansas City manager Matt Quatraro stated on the 17th that the team was going to, as Bergert was dealing with forearm tightness.
Additionally, Kyle Isbel was placed on the IL with a hamstring strain.
The Angels placed pitcher Jose Soriano on the 15-day IL, officially ending his 2025 campaign. Soriano was placed on the injured list with a right forearm contusion.
Soriano was removed from his start on the 18th with the aforementioned contusion. It occurred after he took a line drive off his arm from Jake Bauers. He’ll end his season with 152 strikeouts and a 4.26 ERA over 169 innings.
Here’s a look at players who missed action on the 18th due to injury:
Royals pitcher Bailey Falter threw a scoreless inning (19 pitches) for Omaha (AAA). Falter topped at 95 MPH during the outing.
Orioles C/DH Gary Sanchez went 2-4 for Norfolk (AAA) against the Marlins’ Triple-A affiliate. In that same contest, Derek Hill went 1-3 with a double and run scored.
Twins catcher Christian Vazquez, as the St. Paul (AAA) DH, went 0-3 with two walks.
Tigers reliever Kyle Finnegan struck out one and walked one over 0.2 IP (13 pitches) for Toledo (AAA). Finnegan averaged 97 MPH and maxed out at 98 MPH.
Blue Jays outfielder Anthony Santander went 1-3 with a home run for Buffalo (AAA). Santander was the starting DH for the Bisons.
Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu (calf) will work out in Boston on the 19th. He remains on the injured list.
The Mets placed Reed Garrett on the 15-day IL (retroactive to September 15) with a right elbow sprain.
Paul Sewald (Tigers) was activated off the injured list.
