Reds pitcher Hunter Greene has been excellent thus far in 2025 — but he’s been slowed down by an injury. Greene exited the Reds’ game on the 7th, one of several bits of news. Kris Bryant will need a procedure to relieve his back pain, while Giancarlo Stanton believes he’ll be back soon.
Reds pitcher Hunter Greene cruised through three innings on May 7 before he exited the contest before starting the fourth inning. Per the team, Greene exited with a right groin strain.

Greene’s been one of the game’s best pitchers this season, continuing a strong trend that started last year as he found comfort with a splitter. The Reds’ ace came into the day fourth in the Majors in K/9 (11.6) and tied for eighth in bWAR (1.6).
He’ll undergo a MRI on May 8, per the team.
That wasn’t the only bit of injury news regarding the Reds today. Noelvi Marte, who was on a tear in April after being recalled from Triple-A, landed on the injured list with a left oblique strain.
In another twist, Kris Bryant will undergo an ablation procedure, one done to reduce chronic back pain, on May 7. Per manager Bud Black, it will be minimally invasive in nature, and Bryant should resume baseball activities in a couple of days.
Bryant is currently on the IL with lumbar degenerative disc disease.
For the first time since landing on the injured list, Max Scherzer threw to live hitters before the Blue Jays’ game against the Angels.
Scherzer said the thumb felt good. “I’ve gotten all the inflammation out, so I can finally grip the ball again and not blow out my shoulder,” Scherzer said after the outing.
The Blue Jays righty previously said he hopes to return by the end of the month.
Padres pitcher Dylan Cease left his start against the Yankees with a forearm cramp.
Brewers catcher William Contreras is playing with a fractured finger. An X-ray on May 6 revealed the fracture, which apparently caused so much pain the Brewers wanted it to see what’s going on. Contreras didn’t play on May 7 but is expected to play on May 9 against the Rays.
Dodgers reliever Evan Phillips landed on the injured list with right forearm discomfort. He joins relievers Michael Kopech, Edgardo Henriquez, Blake Treinen, and Brusdar Graterol on the injured list.
Yankees DH Giancarlo Stanton said he plans on being back by the end of May.
The White Sox placed Andrew Benintendi on the injured list with a left calf strain, retroactive to May 5. It’s the second time Benintendi landed on the injured list this season.
Rangers outfielder Kevin Pillar landed on the injured list with lower back inflammation.
Yandy Diaz returned to the lineup after leaving the Rays’ game on May 6 with a hip injury.
