Both the Braves and Royals — two teams dealing with significant injury woes to their pitching staffs — added a pitcher to the injured list on July 27. Kansas City’s ace Kris Bubic is dealing with a shoulder injury, while Grant Holmes became the latest Brave to join the IL.
Last night, Kris Bubic left Game 2 of the Royals’ doubleheader against the Guardians after 2.2 IP, a night that saw him deal with walk problems. Today, Bubic was placed on the IL with a left rotator cuff strain.
Bubic stated after the game that “something” wasn’t right. Now, Kansas City must navigate another notable pitching injury.
He’s the third notable Royals starter on the IL, joining Cole Ragans and Michael Lorenzen.
Speaking of pitching injuries, add another one for the Atlanta Braves. Atlanta placed Grant Holmes on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation.
Holmes becomes the fifth Braves starter on the injured list. He joined Chris Sale, Spencer Schwellenbach, AJ Smith-Shawver, and Reynaldo Lopez on the IL.
And later in the day, the Braves shifted Holmes to the 60-day IL to accommodate the acquisition of Erick Fedde. It effectively ends Holmes’ 2025 season.
Twins star outfielder Byron Buxton did not play in the team’s final game against the Nationals on Sunday. Fortunately for the Twins, there is good news.
Buxton won’t require an IL stint, as the 2025 All-Star — who left the team’s game on the 26th — is dealing with rib cartilage irritation. It was revealed in an MRI.
Per manager Rocco Baldelli, Buxton is day-to-day.
Astros pitcher J.P. France threw two innings for Double-A Corpus Christi on July 27. France, who threw 48 pitches in the outing, surrendered five hits and walked one. He struck out three.
Shane Bieber did not pitch on July 27, despite being scheduled to rehab with Triple-A Columbus. His start was cancelled due to rain.
Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk was placed on the 7-day IL with a concussion.
Zach Agnos (Rockies) was placed on the 15-day IL with a flexor strain.
Kerry Carpenter (Tigers) and Joc Pederson (Rangers) were activated off the injured list.
Additionally, the Yankees officially placed Aaron Judge on the 10-day IL with the elbow flexor strain revealed on the 26th.
