Boston learned the fate of Tanner Houck, the 2024 AL All-Star who missed nearly three months thanks to a flexor pronator strain. Unfortunately for the Sox, it’s not good news. Additionally, Seth Halvorsen of the Rockies left his outing on August 2 thanks to a scary injury.
Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck is officially done for the 2025 campaign. Manager Alex Cora stated Houck has been recommended for Tommy John surgery, which based off of previous recovery times would likely keep him out for all of 2026, as well.
Houck’s last MLB outing came on May 12, one that saw him surrender 11 runs across 2.1 innings. He was shut down with a mild flexor pronator strain in mid-May.
He suffered a setback in July while out on rehab.
The Rockies received a big blow on August 2. Hard-throwing reliever Seth Halvorsen left the Rockies’ game on August 2 after consultation with the training staff. Immediately after he tossed his last pitch, Halvorsen looked to be in considerable pain after throwing a 99 MPH fastball.
After the game, manager Warren Schaeffer stated it’s a right elbow injury, and one that “don’t look good.”
Back issues have been a theme throughout Evan Carter‘s career. He landed on the IL on August 2 with a back strain, adding to the list. It’s the second time the young outfielder hit the injured list this season.
Carter missed time earlier this season with a quad strain.
Marlins outfielder Derek Hill went 0-2 for Jacksonville (AAA) on August 2.
White Sox pitcher Martin Perez went 2.2 innings for Charlotte (AAA). Perez threw 47 pitches in the outing.
The Rockies placed pitcher Antonio Senzatela on the 15-day IL with a right middle finger blister.
Red Sox pitcher Luis Guerrero (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day IL.
Lars Nootbaar (Cardinals) and Bailey Ober (Twins) were activated off the injured list.
