2025 Injury Report: Updates on Cowser, DeLuca, O’Neill

It’s been a tough season for the Orioles, both in the record books and on the injury front. Baltimore lost two outfielders to the IL on August 8, adding to the woes. Additionally, Rays outfielder Jonny DeLuca found himself back on the injured list.

Updates on Orioles’ injuries

The Orioles saw two players hit the injured list on August 8, two players who’ve also spent previous time on the IL this year. Colton Cowser landed on the 7-day IL with a concussion, while Tyler O’Neill is on the injured list with right wrist inflammation.

Manager Tony Mansolino stated Cowser suffered the concussion on August 6 after he collided with the left field wall in Philadelphia after making a catch.

As for O’Neill, this is the third time the oft-injured outfielder landed on the IL this season. O’Neill missed time with a shoulder impingement and neck inflammation. He also hits the IL during what’s been his best stretch as an Oriole. O’Neill has hit five of his eight home runs this season since July 25.

There was some good news, as the Orioles got Ryan Mountcastle back from the injured list.

DeLuca back on IL

Rays outfielder Jonny DeLuca is back on the injured list, as the 27-year-old is dealing with a left hamstring strain.

DeLuca missed almost four months of this season after suffering a right shoulder strain early in the year. He was activated on July 25.

Rehab assignments

Brewers pitcher Robert Gasser struck out four over three shutout innings for Nashville (AAA). Gasser, who threw 42 pitches in total, topped out at 95 MPH.

White Sox pitcher Martin Perez threw 58 pitches (four innings) for Double-A Birmingham on August 8. Perez struck out two.

Other injury news

Twins catcher Christian Vazquez was placed on the IL with a left shoulder infection.

Milwaukee placed rookie pitcher Logan Henderson on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation. It’s retroactive to August 4.

Colorado transferred Thairo Estrada, placed on the IL earlier this week, to the 60-day IL. It ends his 2025 season. Additionally, Orlando Arcia was placed on the injured list with right elbow inflammation.

San Francisco placed Jerar Encarnacion on the 10-day IL with a right hamstring strain.

Jake Burger (Rangers) and Shelby Miller (Brewers) were removed from the injured list.
