With a little over a week before the 2025 trade deadline, one potential trade target landed on the injured list. Rockies starter German Marquez was placed on the IL but not for a shoulder injury. Additionally, the Orioles get a notable trade chip back, while the Twins lost another starter to the injured list.

Marquez lands on IL

German Marquez, a pending free agent and potential 2025 trade target, was placed on the 15-day IL with right biceps tendinitis. The move is retroactive to July 21, 2025.

Marquez underwent an MRI earlier this week, which, according to the right-hander, did not reveal a shoulder injury as originally feared. In his previous start, Marquez’s velocity was down.

Festa goes on injured list

Another Twins pitcher landed on the injured list, as David Festa will miss time thanks to right shoulder inflammation. Festa was placed on the IL retroactive to July 22.

He’s the third notable starter on the IL for the Twins, alongside Pablo Lopez and Bailey Ober. Ober is scheduled for a rehab start on July 25 for Triple-A St. Paul.

Rehab assignments

Reds pitcher Hunter Greene struck out four over two scoreless innings in the ACL on the 23rd.

Yankees pitcher Luis Gil struck out four for Triple-A Scranton on July 21. Gil gave up four hits, three walks, and five earned runs across 3.1 innings (67 pitches) of work. The Yankees right-hander capped out at 96 MPH.

Orioles reliever Keegan Akin threw 27 pitches across 1.1 innings for Norfolk (AAA), while Adley Rutschman went 0-3 with a walk as the team’s starting catcher (he did not finish the game). Akin topped out at 95 MPH.

Other injury news

Royals utilityman Nick Loftin was placed on the 7-day IL with a concussion.

Baltimore transferred Maverick Handley to the 10-day IL.

Nathan Eovaldi, who was scratched from his previously scheduled start this past weekend thanks to a back injury, will start on July 25 against the Braves.

Jose Butto (Mets), Zach Eflin (Orioles), Jon Gray (Rangers), and Orlando Ribalta (Nationals) were activated off the injured list.
