For the first time in almost two years, Liam Hendriks is fully healthy and ready to pitch in the Majors. However, several pitchers hit the IL on April 19. Additionally, Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar will also be sidelined for the near future thanks to a hip injury.
Red Sox reliever Liam Hendriks was officially activated from the IL. Hendriks missed all of 2024 recovering from elbow surgery.
Now, he’s set to help out a Red Sox bullpen that’s received solid contributions from Aroldis Chapman and Garrett Whitlock, both of whom have sub-3.00 ERAs.
Shortstop Ezequiel Tovar has been dealing with hip pain for virtually all of 2025 after he hurt himself during the Rockies’ opening series against the Rays. Now, Tovar was placed on the injured list on April 19 with left hip pain.
Heading into play on April 19, Tovar had the fourth-lowest SLG (.303) among qualified shortstops.
White Sox starter Martin Perez was placed on the injured list with left elbow inflammation.
Meanwhile, in Arizona, reliever A.J. Puk is also dealing with left elbow inflammation. Puk was placed on the IL retroactive to April 18, 2025.
Here’s a look at additional players placed on the injured list:
Twins pitcher Pablo Lopez made a rehab start with St. Paul (AAA) on April 19. Lopez went 4.2 IP (63 pitches), and he struck out four and allowed three hits with no walks. The right-hander hit as high as 96 MPH with his fastball.
Speaking of rehab assignments, Paul Blackburn rehabbed with Brooklyn (A+) on the 19th, as well. Blackburn, who’s missed all of 2025 thus far, tossed 38 pitches through two innings. The righty gave up two hits and two walks.
Relievers Evan Phillips (Dodgers), Brock Stewart (Twins), and Forrest Whitley (Astros) were activated from the injured list.
