It was a whirlwind day for the Yankees, who lost again to the Phillies, on July 26. Aaron Judge, first in the Majors with a 1.160 OPS as of the 26th, sat out with an elbow injury. He will require an IL stint but the good news is that the Yankees dodged a major blow.

Judge lands on IL

The big news on July 26 was Aaron Judge missing the Yankees’ game against the Phillies with an elbow injury. After the game, the team confirmed it’s an elbow flexor strain, which will require an IL stint. Judge’s UCL does not have a tear.

Judge said his elbow began to bother him earlier in the week when the team was in Toronto after a throw to home. The two-time AL MVP stated he tried to gut it out over the last few days but it got to a point where he couldn’t throw.

“You never know what you’re getting into, I’m glad it is what it is,” Judge told reporters on July 26.

Manager Aaron Boone stated Judge will likely be a DH-only player for the first few days after he comes off the injured list.

Updates on Angels’ injuries

Two Angels outfielders went on the IL for the Angels on July 26.

Jorge Soler, who left the Angels’ game on July 23 with back stiffness, was placed on the IL with lower back inflammation. It’s retroactive to July 24.

Additionally, Chris Taylor landed on the IL with a fractured left hand. It’s a re-fracture, as Taylor just returned from the IL on July 21 after recovering from a fracture on that same hand.

Taylor sustained the second injury on the 25th.

Rehab assignments

Cubs reliever Porter Hodge struck out two over one inning for Triple-A Iowa. Hodge gave up a solo home run in the outing.

Astros pitcher Luis Garcia struck out three over 2.1 scoreless innings for Corpus Christi (AA). Garcia tossed 46 pitches in the game.

Royals pitcher Daniel Lynch IV gave up a hit, a walk, and two earned runs over 0.2 IP for Northwest Arkansas (AA).

Other injury news

Royals 1B/OF Jac Caglianone left the team’s first game on July 26 with reported hamstring tightness. He was placed on the IL with a left hamstring strain.

Yerry De los Santos (Yankees) and Sal Frelick (Brewers) were activated off the injured list.
