The Braves’ injury woes will get slightly better on August 15, as Ronald Acuna Jr. is set to return. However, three of Atlanta’s notable pitchers are not likely to return this season. Additionally, Padres starter Michael King is back on the injured list.
Ronald Acuna Jr., barring any last-minute setbacks, will return for the Braves on August 15. Acuna Jr. traveled ahead of the team to Cleveland. However, some unfortunate injury news came on the 14th.
The Braves confirmed reliever Joe Jimenez won’t pitch this season. Jimenez, recovering from knee surgery, was shut down from throwing last week and will not return. Additionally, Brian Snitker stated it’s unlikely that Reynaldo Lopez and Spencer Schwellenbach will pitch again this season.
Schwellenbach is out with a fracture in his elbow, while shoulder problems have sidelined Lopez since the start of the year.
Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola concluded his rehab assignment this week and will return to the team’s rotation on August 17. Manager Rob Thomson confirmed that before the start of their series against the Nationals.
For now, the team will utilize a six-man rotation, keeping Taijuan Walker in.
The Padres placed Michael King back on the injured list. King was placed on the IL with knee inflammation, retroactive to August 11.
King threw just two innings after his previous IL stint. He spent over two months on the injured list with shoulder inflammation.
Yankees pitcher Ryan Yarbrough struck out three over three innings (47 pitches) for Scranton (AAA). In that same game, Fernando Cruz threw 17 pitches over .2 IP, giving up two hits and two runs.
George Springer went 1-2 with a walk and a double for Buffalo (AAA). He was the Bisons’ DH and came out for a substitution in the sixth inning.
Roki Sasaki threw two innings (41 pitches) for Oklahoma City (AAA). Sasaki surrendered six hits and three runs, and did not strike out a batter. He averaged 94 MPH on his fastball and topped out at 96 MPH.
As expected, the Cubs placed Miguel Amaya (ankle) on the 10-day IL.
Dylan Crews was activated off the injured list.
