With a full slate of MLB gaames on July 8, the injury news picked up. Jesse Winker is back from the IL, while Starling Marte hit the list with a knee injury. Additionally, Keibert Ruiz is back on the IL, while the Twins provided updates on several injured rookies.

Mets make injury-related moves

The Mets re-shuffled their roster again on July 8.

Jesse Winker was activated off the injured list & replaced outfielder Starling Marte. Marte landed on the IL with a right knee bruise, retroactive to July 7.

Additionally, the Mets transferred Tylor Megill to the 60-day IL. Megill was placed on the IL back on June 17 with a right elbow strian and won’t be eligible to return until mid-August.

Ruiz back on IL

Keibert Ruiz is back on the IL for the second time in two weeks.

Ruiz originally went on the concussion IL after he was hit by an errant foul ball in San Diego. He came back this weekend but went back on the concussion IL on the 8th.

Updates on Twins’ injuries

The Twins have taken a beating this year with injuries. Minnesota has three starting pitchers — Zebby Matthews, Pablo Lopez, and Bailey Ober — on the IL, plus rookie infielder Luke Keaschall. On July 8, the Twins provided updates on both Matthews & Keaschall.

Matthews threw around 40 pitches over two simulated innings as he works his way back from a shoulder strain.

Keaschall, meanwhile, faced Matthews in that simulated game. He’s recovering from a broken bone in his right arm, and the expectation is that he’ll go back down to Florida and work out before a potential rehab assignment.

Rehab assignments

Rays pitcher Shane McClanahan threw a scoreless inning for the team’s FCL affiliate on July 8. He struck out one batter.

McClanahan hasn’t pitched in an official MLB game since the 2023 season. He threw seven innings during Spring Training but went on the IL before the 2025 season started with a nerve issue in his left triceps.

Reds outfielder Jake Fraley went 1-3 with a run scored for Louisville (AAA).

Mets pitcher Sean Manaea threw 3.2 IP (73 pitches) for Syracuse (AAA). Manaea struck out five and capped out at 93 MPH with his four-seam fastball. He conceded five hits in the outing.

Other injury news

The Blue Jays placed reliever Nick Sandlin on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation.

Cole Ragans (Royals) and Liam Hendriks (Red Sox) were transferred to the 60-day IL. Ragans, out with a shoulder injury, won’t be able to return until the second week of August. Hendriks, on the IL since May 30, is ineligible to return until late July.

Speaking of the Royals, Mark Canha went on the 10-day IL with left elbow epicondylitis.

The Yankees placed Mark Leiter Jr. on the 15-day IL with a left fibular head stress fracture.

Yoan Moncada (Angels) and Luis Robert Jr. (White Sox) were activated from the injured list.
