It’s been a busy last 24 hours on the injury front. Shohei Ohtani didn’t start on the 21st after sustaining an injury while pitching. Kyke Tucker secretly dealt with a hand injury, and the Braves will be without another key piece for the final five weeks of the year.
Here are some late notes that didn’t make our report from August 20:
Braves third baseman Austin Riley is done for the 2025 season. The team announced that Riley will undergo core surgery and miss the rest of the year. He’s expected to be ready for Spring Training.
Riley last played in the Speedway Classic. He sustained the injury while trying to get Elly De La Cruz, hung between third and home, out.
One day after leaving the team’s game on August 20, Brandon Nimmo (neck) did not start for the Mets.
Jeff McNeil was also held out (he appeared as a pinch hitter). McNeil has had shoulder soreness over the last few days.
Twins pitcher Pablo Lopez will make his first rehab outing with St. Paul (AAA) on August 21, starting his 30-day rehab clock.
Getting back to the Mets, outfielder Jose Siri is expected to start a rehab assignment this week. Siri suffered a fractured tibia early in the season and hasn’t played since April 12.
Marcus Semien was pulled from the Rangers’ game on August 21 with a left foot contusion.
The Orioles placed catcher Adley Rutschman on the 10-day IL with a right oblique strain. It’s retroactive to August 18.
Houston placed outfielder Taylor Trammell on the IL with a cervical muscle strain.
The Giants placed reliever Erik Miller on the 60-day IL with a left elbow strain.
Jacob Webb (Rangers) and J.P. France (Astros) were activated off the injured list.
